Information About Herbs And Gardens
Herbs have been used on our wonderful planet for thousands of years and serve a significant purpose in many areas of our daily lives. Herbs are used to make drinking teas, to flavor our favorite foods, for potpourri, medicinal, ornamental and aromatic purposes. When starting your herbs gardens you may choose to plant a specific type of herb; you may also choose to grow exclusive or specific culinary, medicinal, or ornamental herbs. On the other hand, you may choose to grow a variety of herbs from each category to suit your specific needs. Some people even enjoy growing zodiac herbs, Mayan oracle herbs as well as what is called sun and moon herbs.
Herb gardens can be grown in many different ways. You may choose to grow your herbs exclusively indoors or your preference may be to have an exclusive outdoor garden or maybe both. Herbs can be grown directly into the ground, in pots (large, med & small), planters, trays, etc. How you choose to cultivate your garden is truly left up to your imagination.
While almost all herbs can be grown from seeds there are plants that can be bought and planted into the soil of your home garden. The beauty of planting seeds is that you can see the stages of development from the beginning of its life cycle to the end of its cycle. Like any other plants, herbs come in annuals, biennials and perennials. Each of these plant types have a different life cycle and require specific care. Some herbs grow better in an out door garden, whereas some are extremely versatile and do well in both an indoor or outdoor garden.
When starting your herb garden it is important to understand your plants soil requirements. Not understanding the soil requirements for your plants will lead to the death of your plant usually within a one week time frame. Well-drained soil is generally recommended but again this is not across the board for all plants. If your specific plant requires well drained soil and you find your soil to be too compacted you can always use a little organic matter to level it out.
Most plants prefer to be in an area where there is a sufficient amount of sunlight so that it can thrive and be nurtured from the sun. There are anomalies though, as some plants like to be placed in a full shaded area and thrive best in partial shade. Keeping in mind that plant types are different and require specific care, catering to those needs will grant you happy thriving plants. Overall, as long as all your plants receive a balanced amount of sunlight, appropriate soil specific to its needs and sufficient water they will do very well.
